Celta Vigo club announced that they have signed a contract with 63-year-old Spanish coach Benitez for the coaching position vacated by Carlos Carvalhal.
Benitez has worked at teams such as Valencia, Liverpool, Inter, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid and Newcastle United and was recently manager of Everton.
Benitez, who won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool in 2004-2005, the final of which was held in Istanbul, has also featured twice in the UEFA Europa League, LaLiga, Italy Super Cup and once in the UEFA Super Cup World Cup, England Federation Cup, in the teams he coached. He won Community Shield and the Italian Cup.
Celta Vigo, who collected 43 points last LaLiga season, were in 13th place, 3 points above the relegation line.
